Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women?
By Michelle Sala, Integrative Health Coach
February is the month that represents Ground Hogs Day, the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, Presidents Day, National Wear Red Day®, and a few more holidays and events that I’m sure I’ve forgotten!
Speaking of National Wear Red Day® – This is a day that was designated by the American Heart Association (AHA) to raise awareness to the public that Heart Disease is the Number 1 Killer of women. More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next three causes combined! Wow!
Unfortunately, a lot of the advice given to women by western medical doctors is to eat low fat (whatever that means –sugar is worse than fat!) and to take statin drugs if your cholesterol is over 190 (a ridiculously low number suggested by pharmaceutical companies). Apparently this advice is not working as cardiovascular disease is on the rise. While the AHA website has some sound advice for healthy eating, I really had to hunt for it as the focus of the website is to raise funds.
It is my hope that women (and men) take a more proactive approach to their health by learning how to eat real food. Eating 85-90{07617649484fed9b0031b804b8d67042e8c9309551466d2a85339975f1cdc4d0} of your meals at home using REAL food ingredients that are mostly organic and GMO-free is a GREAT start to taking control of your health and reversing not just heart disease, but all lifestyle related conditions.
